Jesus at Steven Curtis Chapman’s Concert

Last weekend I attended Steven Curtis Chapman’s concert at Calvary Chapel in Westlake, CA. The friends I went with had passes for the post-concert meet & greet with SCC. What fun!

Bethany Dillon opened the concert, followed by Sanctus Real. Both were great performances, high-powered and energetic. But then, there came the headliner - Steven Curtis Chapman himself. One of his great passions is adoption, so that night he talked about his foundation “Shaohannah’s Hope,” that raises money to provide financial assistance to families that are adopting.

When you’re raising funds, it’s always good to put a face on the cause, so he brought out two small children, a boy and girl, who were adopted. He talked briefly about getting a phone call from their parents, bursting with excitement about their new children. Then he brought out the parents; Jim (The Passion of the Christ) and Kerri Caviezel.

Apparently, Steven Curtis Chapman and Jim Caviezel are good friends, and the Caviezels live very near the concert venue. A few moments after SCC began his part of the concert, the Caviezel family took seats in the row just across the aisle from our group. What a night! Meet Steven Curtis Chapman after a concert attended by Jesus.

I try not to be starstruck, but meeting someone who’s been at the top of the Christian music business for 20 years, and seeing in person the man who portrayed Jesus in the most well-known film about the Passion in the same night is pretty exciting stuff. Thanks, Bobby and Layne, for a great Saturday night!
