Vote for 2008’s Best Family Films

Guest post from Dick Rolfe – The Dove Foundation

The 2008 Oscar nominations have been announced, and Hollywood has had its say. Now it’s your turn. You can vote for your favorite family-friendly movies of 2008 at the Dove Foundation until February 28, 2009.

Somehow Hollywood insiders continually seem to dismiss the family audience when choosing their favorite films each year. The five Oscar nominees for Best Picture in 2008 are:  The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, “Frost/Nixon,” “MILK,” “The Reader,” and “Slumdog Millionaire.” There are plenty of wholesome alternatives to the adult-oriented fare that industry insiders favor.

The Dove Foundation created a beautiful solid Crystal Dove Seal trophy to honor the “Best of the Best” Dove Family-Approved movies released each year. Our first annual Crystal Dove Seal was awarded to movies released during 2007 in each of six categories.

Last year’s winners were:
Best Adventure – National Treasure: Book of Secrets
Best Comedy – The Game Plan
Best Animated – Ratatouille
Best Drama – Amazing Grace: The Story of William Wilberforce
Best Documentary – Arctic Tale
Best Limited Release – The Ultimate Gift

This year you, our readers and supporters, have the opportunity to cast your vote for your favorite family-approved movie in each category. The final results will be tabulated and a Crystal Dove Seal trophy will be presented in person to the heads of the studios and producers of the winning movies.

Please include your email address on the ballot so we can send you a tabulated report of the final results. And, once the awards are presented we will send you a photo essay of the presentations along with the reactions of each recipient.

Bonus: You will also be entered in a sweepstake drawing for a collection of Dove “Family-Approved” movies on DVD.
