Update on “The List”

Gary Wheeler’s film “The List” (see previous post) continues to set box office records and perform above expectations in theaters. Gary sent us an email update today, and every independent filmmaker should be encouraged by his success. When you get ready to release your own film, if you’re considering a targeted theatrical release, you should talk with Gary about his strategy and incorporate it as muc as possible.

The film opened in Columbia, SC, and Memphis, TN. It was their expectation that it would do well for the weekend, but that would be it, so they could bring in the new Thanksgiving movies. After another strong weekend and a gross of nearly $10,000, they are being held over through the holidays! Additional stats:

  1. In Memphis, “The List” was the #1 movie with a gross of almost $7,500.  This was almost the total of all the other screens combined. Ticket sales were at least 2/3 capacity for every show.
  2. In Columbia, as well as Chapel Hill last weekend, “The List” was one of the top movies at the theater.
  3. The per-screen average was once again the Top Ten in the country.
  4. “The List” recently played at the Asheville Film Festival to 2 sold-out audiences.
  5. In 2 weeks, “The List” opens in Asheville and Goldsboro, NC, followed by Athens, GA

I’m excited about how well this film is doing, and urge you to get to a theater near you to see it. If it’s not in your town, contact Gary through The List movie website, and convince him to bring it to your town!

I am excited about the success The List is having. I thought The Final Solution was a okay film with good potential, and am sure Gary has significantly refined his technique with this film. I’m also happy to see Signal Hill Pictures involvement.
