Top 10 Patriotic Films

Since this next week is Independence Day, I’m looking at patriotic movies to see what I might want to watch on TV, rent, or see in the theater. These are films about U.S. history or the armed forces.

Here are mine in no particular order.

  1. Independence Day - Wil Smith, aliens, and vintage airplanes all in one movie.
  2. Battle of the Bulge
  3. The Patriot - Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger fighting the English in the Revolutionary War
  4. Drive Thru History America - While not a feature-length film, it’s educational, fun, and has a Hummer!
  5. World Trade Center
  6. Heroes of Flight 93 - A tribute to the passengers whose heroism prevented a greater tragedy on September 11th, 2001
  7. National Treasure - Learn some national history while watching Nicholas Cage and crew outwitting villains after the U.S. Constitution
  8. League of Grateful Sons - Stories of men whose wartime letters and pilgrimages to the battlefields of their youth reach out to their own sons and thousands others
  9. Anchors Aweigh - A musical dance number starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra
  10. A Few Good Men - Who can forget Jack Nicholson growling, “You can’t handle the truth!”?
