They’re Coming to America!
Just found out that Hillsongs United is coming to the States to do a worship conference in Orlando, Florida. They’re inviting everyone - including your “mum” - to participate. Conferences happen all the time, it seems. You could spend your life going from conference to conference, and never actually putting in place what you’ve learned at these conferences. Don’t do that.
It was great to see these musicians in action, and even better to have dinner with them.
BUT!!!! A few years ago, Hillsongs came to our town (a small town in central California, population 110,000 in the middle of cornfields & dairies!) and did a concert of praise at a local church. Several of my co-workers and I were invited to be part of a mass choir to back up their singers that night. It was one of the most energetic, passionate nights of worship I’ve ever experienced.
It was wonderful to see these incredible musicians in action, and even better to sit down to dinner with them. I must confess to being a little star-struck when Reuben Morgan, one of Hillsongs’ most prolific songwriters, sat down at our table for dinner. Yes - they ate dinner with us. And I found out that their keyboard player was driving their 40-foot bus cross-country. At that point, my respect for them soared.
In my experience, most musical artists who have the status of Hillsongs don’t drive their own buses and don’t eat dinner with the “ordinary folk”. They even invited one of the singers from the local church to lead with them that night. That’s pretty unique and very generous.
So if you’re in the Orlando area during this conference - GO! You’ll have a wonderful time! And you never know - you might show up on one of their videos.
