Sometimes You Just Need to be Entertained

Saturday afternoon I met a friend from work at the theater and we went to see…”Paul Blart: Mall Cop.” Ta-da! Since I wasn’t planning to write a review, the hand that usually holds a pen and notebook held…popcorn! Because I wasn’t digging for meaning or critically viewing it for cinematography, I just sat back and enjoyed the film.

Yes, it was predictable. I figured out who the “hidden bad guy” was the minute he showed up in the film. But there was an interesting twist with Paul’s ex-wife. It was also a little outrageous (will an aquarium water heater left unguarded by a commercial stove really cause a huge explosion?), but it was funny, entertaining, and fairly satisfying – at least in my unguarded frame of mind.

While I enjoy digging into films to find their meaning, and trying to figure out why the filmmaker made their choices, sometimes on a lazy Saturday afternoon I just need to sit in a dark (and pretty full) theater with a friend and watch a film that makes me laugh. I need to believe that it’s possible that slick, sophisticated criminals who have everything figured out can be bested by the chubby guy on the Segway.

What movies have you watched lately for entertainment alone?

Personally, I like the Hellboy series, but even then I watch it for the incredible detail that is attended to. The costume and set designers, for that film, are artists. Otherwise, I love the sarcastic humor.

you need to see Fireproof when it is released. A church in Louisiana showed it and it is so powerful.

    I saw it.
I liked it well enough. There’s a good message in there and some good acting. It’s definitely one of the better Christian movies out there.

We are social beings as well:-)Everything should be done in moderation so there is never too much of everything especially where our human appetites are concerned. That said you do not want to know what we watch just for entertainment sake that just rocks us everytime we watch it e.g. ‘ministers’ of the Gospel behaving like caricature sales men or performing antics to gain the crowd’s attention; funny things animals do, over the top action movies etc. It is good to have a laugh and just enjoy entertainment for pleasure sake every so often – you can’t be serious about life all the time:-)Nice post!

I know what you mean Angela, I love to watch Movies, they give me a chance to get away from the “Real World”. Well at least for a couple hours, lol

When I don’t feel like doing anything else, I can always watch a good movie!

it’s got to be worst inspirational movie ever, the lighting was terrible, the music was so loud i could’n hear the audio, acting was distressing, screen play? you got to be kidding, this movie was almost blasphemy, no star from me.
