Ratatouille and the Bible
Saturday afternoon I went to see “Ratatouille” with my family that’s visiting from Texas. It was a great experience. Pixar created a fun film that I thought beautifully captured the city of Paris. It also made me laugh at the antics of rats. I never thought I’d do that, since I don’t usually think of rats as comic.
Knowing that animated films often produce terrific gems of wisdom, I tried to capture bits of dialogue that were especially insightful. One that I wrote down was: “If you focus on what’s behind, you’ll never get ahead.”
Today, I thought, “That sounds familiar.” Then I looked in Philippians 3. Of course! The Apostle Paul had said pretty much the same thing - he just didn’t animate it. “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” (Philippians 3:13)
Whether or not the filmmakers knew it, they were reinforcing a Biblical principle. That’s something to celebrate!

I saw the movie and thought it was a great project! My wife loved it..
