Lay It Down - the Feature
A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to read the new script for Lay It Down - the feature-length film. That’s right - our favorite short film is set to become a full-length feature. Writer/director Mike Cargile is working with producer Kevin Downes (one of the founders of ChristianCinema.com and producer of Mercy Streets, Six: The Mark Unleashed, The Moment After 1 & 2, and Time Changer) to bring the intensity of the short to a longer version.
Mike called me yesterday because Kevin asked me to read the script and I made a few notes. We had a great conversation about what he’s trying to accomplish with the feature, his budget constraints, and the process of developing the story. It was a privilege to talk with Mike about his characters, their relationships, and ideas he has to further tighten the story.
He also wants to update the soundtrack. In his mind, it should be a full rock soundtrack, so he’s looking for new bands to add their sound to the film. One band he just found is Gotee Records’ Fighting Instinct, a band out of Winston-Salem/Greensboro, North Carolina. I’ve listened to some of their songs on MySpace, and they have a great fresh sound.
Mike hopes to get going on principal photography soon - I’m hoping he’ll find a location up here near us so I can visit the set. It’s cool to see a production in progress. If you have one going on near you, let us know about it. And if you visit the set, let us know what you saw. Also, if you have other recommendations for new rock bands for Mike, leave them here. He’ll be checking back in and we’ll pass them along!
