Fireproof Alive on the Web
Visit the new Fireproof website and you’ll find some good resources from Sherwood Pictures and Provident Films. A trailer, behind-the-scenes shots, marital assistance, blogs. Whoa! Did someone say “Marital assistance” on a film site? Doesn’t that seem like an oxymoron?
It may, but the production and distribution team behind Facing the Giants and Flywheel have discovered the way many Christian filmmakers and studios are getting more people to see their films. Find a way to make your film a rallying place for a cause.
In a time when there are sometimes more than 30 movies releasing per weekend 52 weeks a year, how are you going to stand out? If your budget doesn’t allow for an Angelina Jolie or a George Clooney, or the special effects of “Transformers” or “10,000 B.C.,” how will audiences hear about you?
If you’re a studio that has the financial mechanism to turn out multiple films without fear of a dismal box office showing ($2.5 million – with which most indie filmmakers would be happy), you don’t need to rally the troops. But if you’re that same studio making Evan Almighty, you might feel the need to create a rallying point.
For Fireproof, it’s marriage. And when the divorce rate within the church is as high as that outside the church, a film about renewed hope for a successful marriage is a great idea.

Looks like an interesting concept. Haven’t seen the first two, though Facing the Giants has been recommended several times. I’ll look forward to seeing this one. Looks like they are utilizing Cameron’s talents, though I haven’t been impressed by the Left Behind films he also starred in.

With the Facing The Giants movie, it is proably one of the best movies made by Christians. It hit the storytelling aspect on all cylinders in my opinion and with such a very small amount of money for a feature film – amazing! When our Church got the rights to show it here in the UK, after the very first viewing, every member and guest wanted to purchase a copy! I have never seen women root for a soccer game in a movie let alone American Football and yet this film achieved that with all the ladies in our Church and even the guests who were not Christians were drawn into the movie on a deep level. What really made it great was that many of the youth could not believe that a Christian movie would be that interesting and life changing. That film has single handedly given so many believers hope that we can make a really great impact in this arena – the movie making industry. I think this lets me know that we don’t really need Hollywood and we don’t have to rely on Hollywood for our entertainment (especially as our valuem systems are very different in many cases)but rather pray and work very hard to produce compelling stories that engage the viewers everytime. Bollywood and Nollywood are two film industries that have been raised up without the help of Hollywood at all and I think that lets me know it can be done and I think Christians are taking responsibility now in providing godly and wholesome entertainment that is every bit as good (and even better by the grace of God) – which is very encouraging. Keep up the good work Sherwood Pictures and may many more follow suit!!!

I look forward to the movie. It’s unbelievable the rate of divorce in the church. I never thought I would be one of those statistics until last year when my husband told me he was leaving and how ” plenty of christians get divorced” how I wasn’t his “soul mate”…
The truth is that if most got it about what God tried to teach us about selflessness, forgiveness, and unconditional love there wouldn’t be any divorce among christians, we are supposed to be different, showing and leading towards Christ.

The way we do church does not produce the intimacy of Jesus Christ in our lives as we are very distant towards one another. Our Churches are not led by the Holy Spirit and by the direction of God’s Word. Church is at the core a family and community of God here on earth and can only be governed by the Holy Spirit Who is God.

Christian Marriage restoration movie FIREPROOF hypocritical
Unfortunately Kirk Cameron’s new movie FIREPROOF does not get the support of the entire professing Christian community, we realise many people will watch FIREPROOF but we encourage people to watch the movie and take home with them the content that lines up with the Word of God, but leave the rest behind in the theatre.
Firstly if you look at the Fireproof very loose and hypocritical slogan “NEVER LEAVE YOUR PARTNER BEHIND”, in today’s world partner can mean anyone, anything and is a politically correct term, a concerned and discerning Christian knows they specifically have a spouse, not just a partner.
Further we ask what Fireproofs definition of “NEVER” is and to further complicate the issue which partner are they talking about, the first, second or third partner? Why not ask the “left behind” covenant spouse (alias partner) of the first marriage how they feel about things? Unfortunately the professing Church today is hypocritical, and that is why many people stay away.

Very interesting and truthful articles Michael on your website. But the movie Fireproof (and movies in general) is not supposed to replace the Bible (or even express the Word of God in its totality) or books to which they are inspired from, but rather to present an idea that entertains as well influences people about the subject matter and give it more awareness – hopefully making people to reconsider their lifestyles – positively or negatively and in some cases investigate further – for people who think. If anything, Michael, be glad that at least now this film is creating much more awareness to see our marriages being restored and beginning to make more people aware of how important it is fight for your marriage. Do you have any ideas that you think would be conveyed into a movie that you feel will help people take their marriages more seriously and not see divorce as an option? But also prepare to deal with issues such as domestic violence, financial irresponsibilities, abuse [physical, emotional, verbal etc.], sexual immorality – while presenting the validity of God’s Word. I truly enjoyed reading a number of the articles on your website (and it will become a valuable resource for my marriage and those we seek to mentor/disciple in years to come) and I think you would make a very interesting guest on a TV show about marriage matters/issues. Thank you.
