Does Source Taint Money?
Last year the Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) turned down a significant donation of funds from a gamers’ convention called “GenCon.” Every year at this event, an auction is held and the proceeds donated to charity. The auction raised more than $17,000, and CCF was the selected charity. They were chosen because this charity was a favorite of Gary Gygax, who co-created the game Dungeons and Dragons.
The reason CCF turned it down? According to GenCon’s site, it was because part of the proceeds came from sales of the Dungeons and Dragons game. It’s rather ironic they did so, considering they were Gygax’s favorite charity, which meant they received donations from him for years, most of which came from the sale of the game.
As several in the blogosphere pointed out, CCF commercials run during some fantasy/horror shows, so if they’re going to limit donations, shouldn’t they be more choosy about where they run advertising?
Does it matter? If you were seeking film financing and had an opportunity to receive a substantial investment from something similar, would you accept it? What taints money more? Its source or its use? Or, since money is simply an object, can it be tainted?

I just finished reading the article, “does source taint money?” Immediately I thought of the verse in the bible where it said that the unrighteous money is set aside for the righteous. Therefore, I feel that it’s ok to take money from the unrighteous, esp. if they not using it to try to bribe you.

NOTHING taints money NOTHING, it is only a tool given by God for us to use to bless people with. Greed, power, opulence, “MONEY” taints people but “money” is a concept, a tool, it can be a friend or foe. If you are free, NOT from the love of money, but from the NEED for money COUPLED with the desire to do ONLY good with money, it flees toward you, because it wants to do that…good. MONEY is inocent, SIN is guilty again.

I was going to post a question today on the CF.org forum about whether it would be right for a Christian to take money as a gift from someone who won the lottery to make a film. I’m not someone who supports or endorses the lottery, but the question came from not playing but receiving from someone who won. This is a good question for us especially when it can cost literally millions of dollars to make a film of high excellence comparable to the ones which are showing in theaters today. Obviously it’s wrong to take blood money or drug money or money from someone that is stolen. But money received from various forms of gambling is more of a gray area. It’s also true that in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah the temple was rebuilt from the funds of a pagan king. Where did that king get his money from? Also in Egypt, the Israelites were given money from their Egyptian neighbors before leaving and crossing the Red Sea.

After thinking of this a little, there are some places in Scripture where people of faith did not receive money from certain sources. In 2 Kings 5 — Elisha didn’t take a gift from Namaan but his servant got greedy seeking it. Also In Genesis, Abraham would not take the spoils from the king of Sodom.
So I think there’s balance to it and it’s something we should be prayerful of when the source is questionable to us.

I just lost my 19 yr old daugter 3 months ago yesterday. A fellow worker gave me this wonderment called a book, At first I was scared to read it. My sister-in-law took my wife and I and out 2 other daughters to her vac home in SC(we live in NY) that was this past w/e. Well I finished the book. To say it made me cry is an understatement…I wept, and I prayed and I looked to my inner-self to ask did I do all I could’ve done..and of course the answer is I did all I or anybody else could do, but God (PaPa) took her and now she is at peace. We have to live in pain without her but somehow knowing that she is eternally happy is a wonderful feeling. When it is my time to pass I know that she will be there with open arms for me. This is for my beautiful daughter Lauren Elizabeth. We love and miss you every day of our lives,

This country has become consumed by greed. The sin of Greed & Power has become accepted no it has been promoted by all of the main stream media. This greed is so pervasive that people can become confused thinking that they must have, must be, or must do. I agree with Dave M. when he said that money is just a tool. But we must always be careful. The inscideous “green monster of greed” is always just under the skin. We must do this. Plilippians 1 27Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel 28without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him,
