Christianity & Islam

I spent a few years working with an organization that sent teams of musicians around the world to share the Gospel. During the day, we often did concerts in schools for children of all ages. We would sing several of our usual songs, teach the kids a fun song with motions and give funny instrument demonstrations. At the end, we would tell them about Jesus and invite them to pray.

One morning after a school concert in South India, I noticed a young girl sitting by herself against the wall, crying quietly to herself. I sat beside her and asked if she wanted to talk, but she shook her head and said “Muslims don’t tell.” She had done something wrong at home, and after hearing about Jesus she was sorry for what she had done.

I didn’t try to discuss theology with her or debate Christianity and Islam – I just told her who Jesus is.

We talked about who Jesus is and how he forgives us, and prayed together. When she opened her eyes, her face was transformed and a beautiful smile broke out. She made a very difficult choice - to turn her back on the faith of her family and follow Jesus. I didn’t try to discuss theology with her or debate Christianity and Islam – I just told her who Jesus is.

Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world, and is predicted to overtake Christianity as the predominant world religion within a few years. As believers in Jesus Christ, it is important for us to know what we believe. It is also helpful to have some insight into the beliefs of other religions. I’m recommending a few films that provide good teaching as well as dramatic portrayals of the consequences of following Christ in the Muslim world.

We never know when we’ll have the chance to tell someone about Jesus. It could be in an airport, at the grocery store, or halfway around the world. Peter instructed us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (I Peter 3:15)

There’s a great discussion on Phil Cooke’s blog about this topic, and Paul Crouch, Jr., responds with a link to the website of Brigitte Gabriel, a frequent guest on TBN
