Nearly 12,000 writers of the Writers’ Guild of America, East and West, went on strike at midnight last night. In New York, writers are picketing NBC Studios at Rockefeller Center, and in Los Angeles, the major studios are surrounded by picket lines. What’s at stake? If the worst-case scenario happens, potentially $1 billion in revenues. The […]
I mentioned in an earlier posting that the sequel to the popular Thou Shalt Laugh was just released on October 23rd. Released just in time for Christmas shopping, Thou Shalt Laugh: The Deuce will make a great stocking-stuffer for almost anyone you know. I know my dad will like it because he cracks up at […]
Last weekend I attended Steven Curtis Chapman’s concert at Calvary Chapel in Westlake, CA. The friends I went with had passes for the post-concert meet & greet with SCC. What fun!
Bethany Dillon opened the concert, followed by Sanctus Real. Both were great performances, high-powered and energetic. But then, there came the headliner - Steven Curtis […]
Today we received a report from director Gary Wheeler that the thriller The List (his directorial debut) is setting box-office records. Yet it has opened in only 4 cities; 3 in North Carolina, 1 in Georgia. How can that be, you ask? Well, I think he might have hit upon a great secret.
Build a strong […]

A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to read the new script for Lay It Down - the feature-length film. That’s right - our favorite short film is set to become a full-length feature. Writer/director Mike Cargile is working with producer Kevin Downes (one of the founders of ChristianCinema.com and producer of Mercy […]
Host/ Producer/Driver - Drive Thru History
After attending Abilene Christian University in the Texas Panhandle, Dave Stotts hopped around a few more places before settling down in the Dallas Metroplex area. Married to Rebekah and the father of 2 sons (Seth and Luke), his time is divided between video post-production, theological studies and making history alive and entertaining.
When asked about his favorite restaurant, he immediately named “Mi Cocina,” which specializes in Tex-Mex cuisine (a man after my own heart!). A fan of science fiction epics (X-men, Superman, Star Wars) married to someone who doesn’t really care for them, Dave often watches his favorites with headphones. He’s even been known to impersonate Darth Vader for his youngest son “Luke, I’m your father”. I talked with Dave on a busy Thursday morning between video projects.
Screenwriter/Producer/Editor - One Night with the King
Stephan was born in Perrytown, New York, (the location of Sleepy Hollow). His dad moved the family around every few years, and eventually wound up in Malibu, California. He attended UCLA where he played football and was part of the team that played in the Rose Bowl his senior year.
A fan of Italian food who would love to move his family to Italy, Stephan is also a surfer. His parents have a small vacation home on a golf course in the desert where the family likes to vacation. They also visit his wife’s parents at Hume Lake Christian Campground (only a few miles from the offices of ChristianCinema.com).
Writers/Producers/Directors - The World Is Waiting
Of all the films listed on ChristianCinema.com, we guarantee you won’t find another one like The World Is Waiting. Brothers Reece and Lance Tedford created a goofy physical comedy that was an experiment in what could be accomplished with minimal financing, cast and crew. There were no stunt doubles used, nor were any animals harmed in the making of this film.
Director - Midnight Clear
Dallas Jenkins isn’t dreaming of a “White Christmas.” In fact, the Christmas he dreamed up is desolate, lonely and dark. It’s set in the Southwest, without any skiers swooping down pristine slopes or sleigh rides over the drifting snow. Dallas directed Midnight Clear (originally released as a short, now in post-production as a feature-length film), based on the book by his father, author Jerry B. Jenkins (‘Twas the Night Before).
I get a lot of questions from people who want to get a start in filmmaking from a Christian perspective. Here are some great places to find filmmakers to connect with, as well as help for your career:
International Christian Visual Media: This network of independent filmmakers sponsors the annual Crown Awards and a Catalyst Conference. […]
David De Vos’ film “The Theory of Everything” was a Triple Crown Winner at this year’s Crown Awards, held in Atlanta, Georgia. These awards are voted on by Christian filmmakers, and Dave’s film won the following awards:
Best Evangelistic Film of 2007
Best Drama Over $250,000
Best Picture for 2007
The film’s combination of science and family drama creates […]
Filmmakers John Schimke and Stewart Redwine, creators of the 36 Parables series, were recently interviewed on “The Harvest Show.” Check out the video from their blog and hear straight from the filmmakers.
“36 Parables” is a modern adaptation of Jesus’ parables. Each DVD has 3 short films on it, which correspond to one of Jesus’ teachings. […]
Writer/Producer/Director - Nobelity
What do the following have in common? Golf. Willie Nelson. Christmas angels. Nobel Peace Prize winners. Friday Night Lights. The Sopranos…. A fascinating and tenacious man named Turk Pipkin. His multi-faceted career reflects the vast interests of the man who captured the insights of nine Nobel Laureates on film. He and his wife Christy have been married 46 years (23 for him, 23 for her) and have 2 daughters. I had the privilege of talking with him on the phone while he was at home in Austin, Texas, between screenings of Nobelity.
Author, Speaker, Blogger, Director
Phil Cooke is a busy man. He directs and produces commercials, consults with churches and non-profit organizations, blogs, and writes books! He’s very well-respected in media circles and has a finger on the pulse of Christian film-making. He’s on a crusade to raise the standard of filmmaking, and is a passionate and humorous speaker.

You can tell a lot about a person by the things others say about them. Recently, in preparation for an interview with Michael Landon, Jr. (right), I watched behind the scenes footage from The Last Sin Eater. Here are some of the things his actors said about him as a director.
He knows exactly what he […]
One of the most fun and fascinating things I’ve ever done was be an extra for Mercy Streets. (I’m in the church scene as part of the choir, and you can see me just over John’s [or is it Jeremiah’s?] right shoulder) It was my introduction to the world of filmmaking, and I was hooked!

Film critic, author, editor
Jeffrey Overstreet is a man of many gifts. To Christian audiences, especially moviegoers, he is best known as a film critic and writer for Christianity Today Movies’ website. To Seattle Pacific University students, faculty and alumni, he is known as an author and editor. To his future audience of readers, he is a writer of fantasy fiction.
I met Jeffrey at the Biola Media Conference after listening to his workshop called “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Confessions of a Christian Film Critic.” He speaks of films, and searching for divine encounters through film, in a way that betrays his love for the medium. He is one of the pioneers of movie critique from a Christian perspective, and to talk with him is to learn new perspectives.
Last November, ChristianCinema.com released a David de Vos film called The Theory of Everything. One of the film’s central characters is a physicist (Victor Lundin) trying desperately to prove the existence of God by searching for the “God Particle” (envisioned at right). Very basically, it is a particle called the “Higgs boson” that could be […]
Everything that I’ve read about writing says a great headline is the way to attract readers. So, now that I’ve got your attention, I really do want to talk about sex. Please don’t close the browser, call our office, or call me any names until you read through this post.
It is rare in films to […]
