Vote for 2008’s Best Family Films

Guest post from Dick Rolfe – The Dove Foundation
The 2008 Oscar nominations have been announced, and Hollywood has had its say. Now it’s your turn. You can vote for your favorite family-friendly movies of 2008 at the Dove Foundation until February 28, 2009.
Somehow Hollywood insiders continually seem to dismiss the family audience when choosing their [...]

New in Town Co-star Siobhan Fallon Hogan on Faith and Family

Blanche & LucyMany people perpetuate the mystique of film and television actors as men and women of leisure, whose basic needs are managed by an entourage of “people” just waiting for their next instruction. Not so Siobhan Fallon. When I spoke with her by phone, she was in the middle of mopping the floor at her home in New Jersey. Veteran of more than 25 films and with guest appearances on at least 10 different television series, Siobhan’s ability to relate to the ordinary person on the street translates beautifully on film.

Her latest film role is Blanche Gunderson, the warmhearted secretary of a plant in New Ulm, Minnesota, that is being re-organized by Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger), a bigshot from Miami. In spite of being worlds apart in personality, values and experience, the two women eventually develop a friendship that brings new life to the small town.

“New in Town” Has New Rating – The Power of a Review

My new tagline is: “Making a difference one review at a time” or maybe “Making a difference one word at a time.”
I am frequently invited to attend Los Angeles press junkets to preview films and participate in press conferences, round tables and one-on-one interviews. Studios set those up to get media coverage in the week [...]

Sometimes You Just Need to be Entertained

Saturday afternoon I met a friend from work at the theater and we went to see…”Paul Blart: Mall Cop.” Ta-da! Since I wasn’t planning to write a review, the hand that usually holds a pen and notebook held…popcorn! Because I wasn’t digging for meaning or critically viewing it for cinematography, I just sat back and [...]

Form a Partnership

I’ve talked about networking before (here and here), and can’t emphasize enough how important it is. One of the great things that grows out of networking is partnerships. People working together to achieve a common goal.
A great example of this is Jenkins Entertainment and PureFlix Entertainment.
Jenkins Entertainment is the production company author Jerry Jenkins (Left [...]

New in Town is Faith-Friendly

“New in Town,” Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr.’s, new film coming out January 30th, is both a faith-friendly and family-friendly film. All of us who are constantly bemoaning Hollywood’s lack of appreciation for our values should support this film as a way of saying “thank you!”
At a recent press conference, screenwriter and story originator [...]

Industry Interview: Actor/Director Robert Davi

Guest post by Greg Wright

Italian-American Robert Davi has been working in Hollywood a long time, amassing over 100 acting credits since 1977. He is perhaps best known for his turn as Bond villain Franz Sanchez in the Timothy Dalton vehicle License to Kill. He was also a regular on TV’s Profiler, and has had recurring roles in Stargate: Atlantis and The Pretender.

Recently, though, he’s branched out into producing and directing. His first feature film, The Dukes, crept out to a very small, quiet release in November after winning several awards at festivals in the U.S. and abroad. Courtesy of a national publicist, I had the opportunity to speak with Davi over the phone a couple of weeks ago.

Violence at the Movies

Usually violence at the movies is limited to what’s happening on-screen. Not so in Philadelphia, PA, on Christmas Day.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that a group of moviegoers who were laughing and talking during the film was asked to be quiet. Their response led to more words exchanged, popcorn being thrown, and a brawl breaking out. [...]
