ER & “The Book of Abby”

On Thursday, October 16, I watched a complete episode of “ER.” For millions of people around the country, that’s a weekly occurrence. I’ve enjoyed the times I’ve watched the show, but it’s not one I follow regularly.
What caught my attention were the words from the book of Job that were being voiced over by Maura [...]

Christian Horror: “House” [the film] and Other Oxymorons

Personally, I’m not a fan of horror films. When we meet in person, I’ll tell you the story of the first horror film I saw in a theater. It was part of the “Friday the 13th” franchise.
I am a fan of great books, and have enjoyed the Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti books I’ve read. [...]

The Chef Jeff Project

I’m a Food Network groupie. I admit it. I’ve asked Aida, made 30-minute meals, dreamed of being an Iron Chef, and studied food science with Alton Brown. But there’s a new chef in town. Say “hello” to Chef Jeff.
It’s a reality show similar to shows like “Top Design” and “Project Runway” with one big difference. [...]

Christians in Cinema: Douglas Gresham

Executive Producer/Adviser – The Chronicles of Narnia
How do you take one of the most beloved book series and create films from them? Can you ever make something that will please readers who have imagined entire worlds in their minds? And just to keep things interesting, what if the author of this series is your stepfather?
I [...]

Christians in Cinema: Kirk Cameron

As a teen idol in the 1980s, Kirk Cameron starred in the sitcom “Growing Pains.” During that time, he met his wife Chelsea Noble and began a relationship with Christ. After the show ended, Kirk had roles in other films, including the Left Behind movie series.
His passion for evangelism also led him to a friendship [...]

“Fireproof” Interviews: Executive Producers Catt & McBride

When Pastor Michael Catt (left, courtesy Sherwood Baptist Church) challenged his congregation to reach the world from Albany, Georgia, making movies that would reach around the world may not have been exactly what he was thinking of. But now with two films behind them and a third just weeks from release, it’s apparent that’s one [...]

“Fireproof” Beats Out “Religulous”

A discussion this morning about the box office success of the film Fireproof started my wheels turning. My colleague Jared sees the theatrical success of this film as a step in defining a specific niche or genre for theater-goers. Much has been said, both positive and negative, about the film (both its story and execution) [...]

It’s Just Business at Lionsgate

In Matthew 6:3-4, Jesus talked about giving and said, “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.” Apparently Lionsgate Entertainment has borrowed that saying and applied it to their distribution practices.
They released The Case for [...]
